Arvind Kumar joins STPI as Director-General

NEW DELHI: Arvind Kumar has joined as Director General of Software Technology of India (STPI). Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.

STPI is fuelling the culture of tech entrepreneurship and innovation in the country by launching 25+ Centers of Entrepreneurship in emerging technology domains. NGIS is the flagship program of MeitY implemented by STPI to realize the vision of NPSP to democratize software product development in Tier-2/3 cities by providing a robust ecosystem, which will lead to IPR creation, product development, and generate employment opportunities for the skilled talent pool. Under Arvind Kumar’s able leadership STPI will further reach new heights.

Arvind Kumar, DG, STPI, said “STPI, in my opinion, should serve as a one-stop-shop for technology startups. I believe that startups can primarily contribute to the accomplishment of Governments / MeitY’s vision of one trillion-dollar digital economy.”

Currently, STPI-registered units have reached IT/ITeS/ESDM exports of over Rs. 5 lakh crores. STPI is one of the largest tech incubators in India with an area of approx.13 lakh sq. ft. spread across various Tier 1/2/3 cities. STPI is also assisting in the formulation of India BPO Promotion Scheme 2.0. Further to strengthen the electronics sector STPI has undertaken a rolling out of the Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) Scheme.

Before joining STPI, Kumar was working in the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in 2004. As an advisor in TRAI, he was responsible for broadband, data security and privacy issues, manufacturing, DTH, IPTV, TV broadcasting, and OTT, after having worked since 1997 in the Indian Government-run premier technology center, C-DoT. He holds an MTech degree from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi.

STPI has been activating multiple initiatives for promoting entrepreneurship and creating a robust start-up ecosystem in the country. With this vision, to build the next wave of budding entrepreneurs, 21+ CoEs in emerging technologies are being set up by STPI in a collaborative approach across the country and STPI shall act as single-window facilitation centers to extend requisite lab support, funding & mentoring.

Airtel appoints former Cabinet Secretary as independent director

NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel, India’s premier communications solutions provider, today announced the appointment of PK Sinha and Shyamal Mukherjee as Independent Directors on its Board of Directors. The appointments are subject to approval by shareholders at Airtel’s upcoming Annual General Meeting.

PK Sinha, IAS (Retd.), served as the Cabinet Secretary for more than 4 years before moving to the Prime Minister’s Office. He retired from there in March 2021 after 44 years of continuous service to the nation. He has been a Government nominee Director in numerous major Public Sector Undertakings and is well versed with the principles of healthy corporate governance.

Shyamal Mukherjee is the former Chairman and Senior Partner of PwC lndia and was at the forefront of making PwC a future-ready firm. Shyamal began his professional journey with PwC in 1984 and became a partner in 1993. He held several leadership roles at PwC India, including Brand & Strategy leader and Leader of India Tax practice. Shyamal also serves as an Independent Director on the board of ITC Ltd and a member of its Audit Committee.

The Company added that Manish Kejriwal, Lead Independent Director, would be retiring on September 25, 2022 on completion of his second tenure. Shishir Priyadarshi would be leaving the board with effect from October 31, 2022 to devote time towards his other professior,21 commitments. D. K. Mittal IAS (Retd.), would be designated as Lead Independent Director with effect from September 26, 2022.

Indian-origin man appointed CIA’s first chief technology officer

NEW DELHI: Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William J. Burns announced the appointment of Nand Mulchandani to serve as CIA’s first-ever Chief Technology Officer (CTO).Mulchandani, an Indian-origin man who studied at Delhi’s Bluebells School International between 1979-1987.

With more than 25 years’ experience working in Silicon Valley as well as the Department of Defense (DoD), Mulchandani brings substantial private sector, startup, and government expertise to CIA.

As the CTO, Mulchandani will ensure the Agency is leveraging cutting-edge innovations and scanning the horizon for tomorrow’s innovations to further CIA’s mission. “Since my confirmation, I have prioritized focusing on technology and the new CTO position is a very important part of that effort. I am delighted Nand has joined our team and will bring his extensive experience to this crucial new role,” said Director Burns.

Prior to joining CIA, Mulchandani most recently served as the CTO and Acting Director of DoD’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center. He also co-founded and was CEO of several successful startups– Oblix (acquired by Oracle), Determina (acquired by VMWare), OpenDNS (acquired by Cisco), and ScaleXtreme (acquired by Citrix). He has a degree in Computer Science and Math from Cornell, a Master of Science degree in Management from Stanford, and a Master in Public Administration degree from Harvard.

Vishak Raman to head Fortinet’s Business in India, SAARC and Southeast Asia

NEW DELHI: Fortinet, a global leader in broad, integrated and automated cybersecurity solutions, today announced the appointment of Vishak Raman in a new role as the Vice President for Sales in India, SAARC and Southeast Asia.

Vishak Raman brings with him over two decades of experience in the cybersecurity space with proven expertise in product management, sales, marketing and business development. Earlier as the Senior Regional Director, India & SAARC at Fortinet, he was instrumental in establishing and growing Fortinet’s technology leadership and success story in India. He also set up a first-of-its-kind Technical Assistance Center at Bangalore which has over 200 engineers who provide 24/7 support to Fortinet’s customers in India and the Middle East.

Prior to Fortinet, he was Director of Security Business, India & SAARC at Cisco. Vishak who holds an engineering degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from IIM Ahmedabad, has also worked in various roles at FireEye, Tata Communications, WatchGuard, Sify and HCl Technologies.
